Something a little bit different from T-Dot emcee/producer royceBIRTH, switching up his styles for his upcoming "experimental EP," Departures. Not his regular style, but a dope track nonetheless:
royceBIRTH returns, with a sound that deviates away from his typical sound. The Verge, is the lead single from royceBIRTH's upcoming EP, "Departures" (Due Fall 2012). royceBIRTH, known to be rooted in traditional Hip-Hop, describes "Departures", as an album based on risk taking, presenting the unexpected, and welcoming challenges through music. Toronto emcee (and H3 Family) FenaxiZ just dropped his long-awaited album, Vintage, and it's currently available for free download. The album features some dope production by Amir, Anonymous Twist, Incise, Jobe Wan Kenobi, Quarter Inch Kings, and royceBIRTH, and collaborative artist features from royceBIRTH, August Rigo, US!, JLatte, Dagamuffin, Kris Blade, and Kim Possible.
Vintage is FenaxiZ's first album release in
6 years - this project has been 3 years in the making, and Fen doesn’t disappoint. Listening to this record, it feels like everything that the artist has been building up and keeping inside comes out on this album, ranging on
topics from personal life questions and reflections (throughout the album), to re-contextualizing
Filipino history (on “White Man’s Burden”), to venting his frustrations after
years of grinding in the hip hop game and not getting the love he deserves (“Goodbye
To The Game”).
Yes, this album has a
vintage feel true to its name, from the intro track with the needle-on-the-record effects and royceBIRTH’s chorus on “Status Update,” to his childhood reminiscing on “Golden
Age” and “Can’t Stop Me” (with an incredible old school sample courtesy of
Anonymous Twist). This isn't just another throwback album, however; Fen keeps it fresh and downright raw with pure honesty and intensity on these tracks. Vintage is an album relevant to real life struggles that all people deal with and face, voicing the artist's insecurities and fears while at the same time coming with an overwhelming sense of determination and perseverance.

If you've heard about the 6-degrees of separation rule, that number becomes even smaller when applied to the Canadian Hip-Hop industry so we want everyone involved in this scene to recognize that fact and work together towards putting our art out there as a whole." The Chain City EP is set to drop this year and will feature the single "Ah Yeah" as well as "Substance (feat. MC FÜBB)" and "Born & Raised." Hip Hop culture manifests through the creative self-expression of individuals who embody its spirit in their respective art forms. This power of spontaneous creativity, the unification of a community for the great purpose that is Hip Hop, happens at The Cypher. Artists sign up to take part in group performances called cyphers, in which each performer takes a few minutes on the mic and then passes it on to the next performer. All performances occur over music supplied by a live DJ, beat boxer, or producer. There are also a few spots at The Cypher reserved for featured artists to perform their own sets. The Cypher is a grassroots hip hop event started by MC FÜBB and the Hip Hop Headz (H3) community in downtown Toronto in the summer of 2009. The Cypher is an event where hip hop MCs, DJs, producers, and other artists from around the world come to meet and showcase their talents and skills, and gives them an opportunity to network and create business opportunities.
